"I enjoyed learning about rocks. It was really fun because Mr Berry would make the names of rocks funny!" Year 3
"I really enjoyed doing lots of the experiments. Especially the one where we had to roll marbles down a ramp." Year 5

Rocks, Soils andFossils
Year 3 and 4 children absolutely love this workshop. For the whole day there are plenty of laughs and lots of smiles.
The day is jam-packed with activities, including:
-
Examining rocks, minerals, soils and fossils with electronic microscopes,
-
Testing the properties of rocks and soils
-
Making fossils in order to work out more about how they are formed
-
Modelling the formation of different rock types,
-
Modelling the effects of plate tectonics,
-
'Travelling ' deep underground,
-
Exploring rocks in space

Electricity - The case of the misisng scientist
The scientist was last seen entering the mystery mansion. Armed only with their incredible understanding of electricty, your children will assist the team of investigators as they explore each of the rooms, solving scientific problems and hopefully escaping with the scientist.
Activities that the children will do include:
-
Investigating a range of circuits using a host of different components,
-
Using light meters to measure how well different materials conduct electricity,
-
Performing experiments with buzzers and decibel meters,
-
Making their own battery,
-
Exploring how well electric boats travel,
-
Building and testing an electric toy car,
-
Investigating different methods for generating electricity
-
Finding out the best way to use an electric pump to move water.

States of Matter - Escape rooms
I am afraid that Dr-Know-It-All is at it again. This time he has invented a chemical that makes children turn into adults! Only by using their knowledge of states of matter and applying a whole range of scientific enquiry skills will the children work out the scientific problems in each of the laboratories and escape with the dangerous chemical.
Activities that the children will do include:
-
Testing the strength of solids
-
Examining mystery powders with electronic microscopes
-
Investigating the viscosity of liquids
-
Making their own candles
-
Creating a chocolate that will pop on their tongues
-
Revealing hidden messages using evaporation and burning
-
Launching rockets

Forces - Missions Incredible
At last, Fred-the-force-Newton has been located! Your children's mission, should they choose to accept it, is to aid the spy with solving a plethora of forces challenges to enable him to capture this spy and possibly save the world!
The activities that the children will do include the following:
-
Testing parachutes
-
Accurately measuring with force meters
-
Investigating inclined planes (ramps)
-
Creating marble mazes
-
Testing pulleys
-
Exploring levers
-
Making and testing gears using K'nex
-
Investigating water resistance
-
Testing upthrust in water

Electricity - Saving planet Earth
As we all know, the human race is having a massive impact on Earth's environment. An issue which is essential that children understand concerns how we currently generate the electricity that we use. So, this workshop will enable the children to find out so much about what electricity is, what it can do for us, and how we can and could generate it, that they will be able to make informed decisions about how they would like to influence their environment as they grow up .
The activities that the children will do include:
-
Making a copy of the first-ever battery created,
-
Investigating which vegetable makes the best battery,
-
Testing a range of elctrical circuits and components,
-
Making electric cars
-
Testing electric games
-
Burning different materials
-
Making chemcial reactions
-
Using solar panels
-
Testing wind turbines
-
Testing water pumps
